Biography

Vadim Zang is an artist whose work blends classical academic principles with contemporary influences. From an early age, he was inspired by the old masters like Michelangelo, Velasquez, Sargent, and Rembrandt, and studied their techniques closely. After studying Russian and European academic traditions, he moved to the United States in 1992 to study American modern conceptual art and expand his knowledge of fine art. Once in the U.S. he came to paint alongside modern masters like Steve Huston, Mark Westermoe, Richard Schmidt, and Jeremy Lipking.

Vadim’s art is characterized by his mastery of the alla-prima technique, capturing the essence of his subjects in a single, uninterrupted session. His brushstrokes, guided by first impressions, create dynamic compositions that communicate deep emotion with remarkable simplicity. Vadim’s paintings are stories told with few words, relying on the energy and spontaneity of the moment to create lasting impressions. The core of Vadim’s teaching is a program of his creation on the principles of tonal drawing that prepares you for alla-prima painting.

In addition to his fine art career, Vadim worked as a graphic artist and art director during the 1990s and 2000s. He created designs for brands like Guess, Harley Davidson, and Hard Rock Cafe, as well as iconic musicians such as Cher and Paul McCartney. Despite his success in design, Vadim’s passion for painting remains central to his career.

Vadim’s work is celebrated for its expressive realism, emotive depth, and spontaneity. His paintings have been widely exhibited, and his expertise continues to inspire both collectors and fellow artists.
